The Mindy Project has officially sent Adam Pally on his way.
The sendoff occurred on Tuesday night’s episode, “No More Mr. Noishe Guy,” as Pally’s character Peter Prentice announced that he is quitting his job at Shulman & Associates and moving to Texas with Lauren (Tracey Wigfield), after she ended her relationship with Jeremy (Ed Weeks). With the love triangle now severed, Peter rushed to the airport and offered to relocate for a life with her and her son.

After the medical center’s serial dater and Dartmouth alum shared his news, Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling) threw him a goodbye party. “Home is where the person you love is — that’s why I’m moving to Texas,” he said. Peter then packed up his office, said his goodbyes and jumped into a cab as Simon & Garfunkel’s “April Come She Will” played.
Additionally, Mindy was offered by her Stanford fellowship to start a world-class fertility clinic in San Francisco, complete with a position for her boyfriend, Danny (Chris Messina), who had just purchased a Harlem brownstone for the two of them. Though the episode ended before she made her decision, the final seconds did feature Peter calling Mindy, notifying her that she’s pregnant.
Pally, one of the most in-demand actors last pilot season, joined the Fox series as a recurring player in season two and was upped to a regular after ABC’s Happy Endings was canceled. His contract was set to expire with episode 13 of the third season. Pally has the option of guest-starring when and if his schedule permits.
The actor recently inked an overall deal with ABC Studios to produce projects for broadcast, comedy and streaming services. Last season, he developed a comedy for NBC, though he was never attached to star in the project from partners Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.
This marks the latest casting shake-up on critical darling The Mindy Project. Beth Grant was promoted to regular when the series underwent a midseason shuffle in its freshman run. Amanda Setton (Shauna) and Anna Camp were both downgraded to recurring and eventually exited the series. Original co-stars Zoe Jarman and Stephen Tobolowsky also departed the series.
